What you need to know about SDLC:
As with any life cycle, projects are born of idea, authorized by contract, nurtured through adolescence and adulthood, retired, and sunset upon completion.
Projects are traditionally phased and sequenced, driven by a project plan, flowing one direction, and cycled only once per lifetime, delivering value, and closed. In a single orbit, the project team will make every effort to predict the end-to-end project delivery execution, referencing the contract and the baseline project plan to audit and guide their performance. Ultimately the team(s) will be dispersed, and their knowledge base relegated to a repository in the project archives.
What do the archives tell us?
100% Predictability is an illusion. It's difficult to call your shot given the information available at a moment in time.
